Design Objective

In the Hindi language, the word "jungli" tends to represent someone who belongs and carries characteristics of an inhabitant of a jungle. Often times, this word is associated with those in the LGBTQ+ community as a means to dehumanize them, however, the best way to overcome something is to simply own it.

Junglee is meant to address both the positives and negatives that these respective queer individuals must face within the Indian community.

Project Takeaways

This project explored how a sensitive topic can be depicted through a magazine in a simple manner by using bold typography a structured grid layout. The use of coloured textured paper for the inner pages allowed this project to grow into something more personal and unique, while also honouring the rainbow flag curated by the LGBTQ+ community.

* Content was collected through Wikipedia, The Logical Indian, Homegrown, and Independent.
